Home Economics: Life Skills for Independent Living is a hands-on course designed to prepare students for the everyday responsibilities of becoming capable, confident, and independent young adults. Through practical activities, real-life challenges, and creative projects, students will develop essential skills they can use now and throughout adulthood.

Students will learn how to:

• Plan meals and feed a family while staying within a budget
• Understand budgeting and manage basic finances
• Write a check and make smart spending decisions
• Iron clothing and sew on a button
• Make a bed and maintain an organized living space
• Practice hospitality and basic home management
• Safely change a lightbulb and handle simple household tasks
• Locate and shut off a home’s main water supply in an emergency
• Understand basic household systems
• Read an analog clock, cursive handwriting, and signatures
• Develop practical problem-solving and everyday independence

This course is about more than learning household tasks—it’s about giving students the confidence and practical know-how to take care of themselves, their homes, and eventually their own families.
